In business, a pilot program is a small-scale launch designed to build, learn, improve, and prepare for long-term success.
WonderPlay is intentionally beginning with a three-month pilot program. During this time, we will create welcoming spaces, develop our team, strengthen our systems, and learn from children, their caregivers, and our community. As we learn, we will refine our approach and build a stronger, more sustainable model that is ready to grow and serve children and their families for years to come.
Our Goal
Our goal is not simply to open the doors of WonderPlay. Our goal is to build a place where children, caregivers, and our community can experience the wonder of play for generations.
We believe the strongest organizations are built by listening, learning, and refining before they grow. Rather than rushing to launch, we are intentionally taking time to form a strong foundation by developing our programs, equipping our team, strengthening our systems, and creating meaningful relationships within our community. Throughout the pilot, we will continue learning, adjusting our approach, and making thoughtful improvements so that WonderPlay remains faithful to its vision while responding to the unique strengths and needs of Rwanda.
By investing this time now, we are preparing for something greater than a successful opening. We are building a sustainable organization, a strong team, and a model that can serve children and families with excellence long into the future.
What Will Happen During the Pilot?
During our three-month pilot, we will intentionally build the people, partnerships, resources, and systems that will help WonderPlay serve children and families now and into the future.
Throughout the pilot, we will focus on several key areas:
Preparing the WonderPlay Environment
We will thoughtfully design and prepare the WonderPlay environment to inspire curiosity, encourage meaningful play, and strengthen relationships between children and their caregivers. Every space, material, and experience will be intentionally chosen to reflect the WonderPlay vision and create a welcoming place where children and families can explore, learn, and grow together.
Building Community Relationships
WonderPlay is designed to grow alongside the local community. During the pilot, we will introduce WonderPlay to families, organizations, schools, businesses, and community leaders while developing meaningful partnerships that support our mission.
Sharing the WonderPlay Story
As WonderPlay grows, we will document the journey, tell our story with honesty and creativity, and invite others to follow our progress. By sharing our vision and the work happening behind the scenes, we hope to build understanding, trust, and excitement within our community.
Creating Meaningful Experiences
Throughout the pilot, we will plan and host events and activities that introduce families and the community to WonderPlay. The purpose is to help us learn, evaluate, and refine our programs.
Together, these efforts will help us build a strong foundation, learn from our community, develop our team, and prepare WonderPlay for sustainable long-term operations.
Current Phase: Build
WonderPlay is currently in Phase I: Build—the first stage of our three-month pilot program. During this phase, we are focused on creating the foundation that will support WonderPlay’s future programs, partnerships, and daily operations.
Because we are building a new organization, many of our current opportunities are project-based independent contractor agreements. Each contract is designed to accomplish specific startup objectives that contribute to the successful launch of WonderPlay.
As we move into the Implement and Adjust phases of the pilot, our work will continue to evolve. Future contract and employment opportunities will be guided by the needs of the organization and the lessons we learn throughout the pilot.
